In the iPhone app, go to the Me tab (with your name), tap the settings icon at the top left, and then Notification Settings. You’ll see the option to adjust push notifications on your device (left column) and email notifications (right column). You can also tap the “mute” button to turn off push notifications on your device for an hour, or until the next morning.
In the Android app, tap Menu, select Settings, and then Notification Settings. You’ll see the option to adjust push notifications on your device (left column) and email notifications (right column). You can also tap the “mute” button to turn off push notifications on your device for an hour, or until the next morning.
In the BlackBerry app, go to the Me tab (with your name) and scroll down to Settings > About/Contact & settings > Notification Settings. You can receive push notifications on your device by selecting Yes.
On the web, go to foursquare.com/settings and scroll down to Notifications to adjust push notifications on your device (left column) and email notifications (right column). For example, you can check the box to receive notifications on your device when your friends check in, or you can check the box to receive email notifications when a friend does one of your tips.
*Note that you can only receive check-in notifications from friends that are in the same city that you're in. Go to http://foursquare.com/manage/friends to select or deselect who you want to receive notifications from.
