TIPS
All tips that you write (and the photos you attach to them) will be viewable by the public. Please keep this mind whenever you choose to leave a tip!
Tips are public notes that you leave on a location for friends and other Foursquare users about experiences you recommend (or recommend be avoided) such as: "Get the off-menu butterscotch milkshake" or "Stay away during the morning coffee rush. You'll get better service after 11am!" Think of tips as a virtual version of something you would share with a friend to make their experience at a favorite place that much better.
To add a tip, go to a location page in the mobile app and scroll down. Tap the 'add a tip' button and write a little piece of wisdom (and upload a photo!) to leave behind for future visitors.
To edit a tip, find the tip you want to change on the place page and click the ‘Edit’ button. Note that you can only edit tips via the web and not the mobile app.
To delete a tip you've added via the mobile app, tap through to the tip detail, then scroll down and hit 'delete.' On the web, click the time/date on the tip, hover over the tip detail, and click the gray 'x' that appears.
LISTS
Lists you create (other than your to-do list) are viewable to the public. Keep this in mind before you decide to create a list and add tips and photos to it!
A list is a great way to find and share the places you love! You can create your own List by going to your profile at https://foursquare.com/user (the Me tab), clicking "Create a List," and giving it a title (for example, "Best Burgers in NYC," "Must-visit Places in London," or “Best Golf Courses in the World”).
To-do list
You'll see your to-do list on your profile page in the app under 'lists' and on the web. Go to https://foursquare.com/user (the Profile tab) and then click on "To-Do List." To add items, tap the green save ribbon on a tip or location. To delete, hit the save button again and un-check the appropriate box. Your to-do list is only visible to your Foursquare friends. Other lists that you create are public.
Creating a list:
Once your list is created, just type in the search bar and click to add locations, tips, and photos based on where you've been and/or where you want to go. Make sure to click the “Finished Editing” button in the top right of the screen to save your changes.
Your Foursquare friends can help collaborate on and add to your list. To allow this, just click "Let friends add locations, too” in the list editor. Any items your friends add will be attributed to them (they won’t be able to edit list title, photo, or description) and you can always reorder or remove items. You can toggle collaboration on or off at any time.
Edit your Lists at any time! From your profile at https://foursquare.com/user, click on the title of the List, and click “Edit” to:
1) change the title, description and photo
2) add items by searching for additional locations (our auto-complete will help you out, just make sure you’ve set the right city!)
3) reorder items (put your mouse below the item number to drag and drop!) or remove items (put your mouse over the item and click the gray “x”)
4) allow your Foursquare friends to help collaborate on and add to your List by clicking "Let friends add venues, too”
5) track your progress by marking any item on a List as "done"!
6) delete a List by clicking "delete" on the top right corner of the page
You can also curate your Lists by adding or removing items as you come across them on the web. And if you happen upon a List you like from a friend or a brand, click "Follow."
