Can people see my recent check-in location and time on Twitter and/or Facebook?

If you connect your account to your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts you will have the option of publishing individual check-ins to Twitter or Facebook.  The setting to send to Twitter and Facebook is sticky but can be changed at each check-in.   Note anything you publish to Twitter, including your published check-ins, will appear on your Twitter stream in real-time, where all of your Twitter followers can view it (also, anyone visiting Twitter can see public tweets which are crawled and discoverable by search engines, unless you make your Tweets private in your Twitter user settings). Similarly, anything you publish to Facebook, including your published check-ins, will be viewable by everyone who’s allowed to view your Facebook activity (before pushing your Foursquare activity to Facebook, make sure you’re comfortable with your Facebook Privacy Settings).

Each check-in screen on Foursquare has two buttons - the Facebook "f" and Twitter bird - that allow you to choose to publish (or not) your check-in to Twitter and/or to Facebook (the first time you visit a check-in screen after you first link your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts, the buttons on the check-in screen will be defaulted to share to those accounts).  To adjust your sharing settings for each individual check-in, slide the buttons to either on or off on the check-in screen (when they are highlighted, sharing is on, and when they are gray, sharing is off).

Note: You can only choose to share check-ins and other activity to accounts that have already been connected to your Foursquare account.  To link your accounts, go to your account settings.
