Discord is a popular communication platform that allows users to voice and text chat in real time. We are using it to help the Placemaker community meet each other, collaborate on edits, and connect with Foursquare staff. You may already be familiar with Discord if you are a gamer, but if not, you may find that it is very similar to Slack.
Our Discord is private for Placemakers only, so you must be a Foursquare Placemaker
and connect your Foursquare account in order to access the server.
If you are not yet a Placemaker, visit foursquare.com/superusers to find out more!
How to join?
Follow these easy steps to join the Placemaker Discord server:
-
First, you will have to register an account on Discord (https://discord.com/register , or in the Discord app on your mobile device) if you do not have one already
-
Once you are logged in to your Discord account, join the Foursquare Placemaker server (https://discord.gg/fsqplacemakers)
-
Check out the #rules channel for server rules and etiquette. We should all try to abide by these to maintain a positive and productive community experience
-
Follow the instructions in the #how-to-join channel to connect your Foursquare and Discord accounts (foursquare.com/discord/connect) - you may have to log in to your Foursquare and Discord accounts in your browser if you haven’t already
-
Connecting your account will give you a role on the server corresponding to your Placemaker level, which will let you join the channels. Introduce yourself in the #social channel and get to know other members of the community
Regional Channels
When joining the server you will also be given a role based on your country. Some countries have regional channels that you will then have access to.
If you are placed in the wrong country or would like to join multiple countries, DM any PM9+ or foursquare staff for help.
If there is no regional channel yet for your country, visit the #discord-help channel and you can see if there is enough interest to start one. Regional channels should have enough active participants to sustain themselves and must also have moderators.
